My coursework for UW-Madison's User Experience Design program revolved around a capstone project. For my capstone project, I decided to focus on improving the usability of the Roll20 website.
During the final stage of this project, I tested the information architecture and usability of my prototype using a variety of methods.
I performed an open card sort study with 12 participants to better understand how users expect Character Sheet information to be organized.
I analyzed the Similarity Matrix, Dendrogram, and Item-by-Category Matrix to understand the results. I found a high level of agreement between the test results and my prototype. I also made some helpful tweaks to my prototype based on the results.
I created a data collection plan to define my research goals and corresponding metrics. I planned a usability study to answer three key questions:
I facilitated remote usability tests with 6 participants using video conferencing software and OBS Studio. I reviewed the session recordings to measure task success, time-on-task, and Single Ease Question (SEQ) scores for each task. Participants also submitted a System Usability Scale (SUS) at the end of the session.
I calculated descriptive statistics and created data visualizations to summarize the results of the usability tests.
